Headed East for the Fall
The fall riding here in Durango has been splendid, check out the pictures on the Flickr photos page. The colors in the high country are going off and the trails are so buffed out it is hard to say goodbye to them. Yesterday was my last mountain bike ride of the season because when I return there will most likely be a couple feet of snow in the mountains. It is my favorite time of year hear at home and it is tough to leave for a month when it is so nice. I am just hoping that I can catch the colors back east as well. It is off to New York for a month of Cyclocross racing out east. I will be hitting up eight UCI races in the next four weeks starting this weekend in the Hamptons of Long Island. I have raced there before and it went very well a couple years ago with two 2nd place finishes to Mark McCormick. If only I could be so luck this season with the World Champion in attendance and a stacked field. It is sure to be difficult to crack a top 10. I am hoping to gain some points as it is so important for the USGP starts.
The Squash Blossom Classic in Gallup, New Mexico went well. I placed both the time trial and the criterium. My legs were feeling a bit shot from the days in Vegas standing around and racing. The road race was not super long but windy and with about 3,500 feet of climbing. I attacked at 10 miles in and when I did my legs didn’t like it. I was thinking “uh, oh, not good, what are you doing Shriver?” I sat off the front for a bit and then another racer bridged across. The New Mexico TT champ Randy Cocoran, also a former National TT champ. This was alright, we rotated for the next 50 miles in the wind and built up a good 5 minutes on the field. I was suffering like a dog all day. Finally with 6 miles to go I had to giver and got away. Riding in solo to the finish and winning the road race and the overall. The prize for first in the overall was a sweet Navajo Fetish Bolo tie. It is really nice. Don’t know when I will be rocking the tie, but it is a nice one.
The next day after the race I put on the cylocross clinic with Colorado Premier Training. It was a huge success and 20 people showed up to learn refine their technique. It was a great time and good to see all the cycling enthusiasts.
I am selling my Mountain Bike from this season. It is in perfect condition with only about 15 rides total on it and I bought it in May. It is an 07 Giant Anthem, Large. Let me know if you are interested. Take a look a the photos here, and just shoot me an email.
Next post will be from the East coast in Long Island most likely. Wish me luck.

Thanks Zac, I do remember you and your family. You guys are great. I think that I am all set as the promoters have housing lined up, but I do appreciate your generosity. Say hi to the grandparents for me. Good luck with your riding and see you in a couple weeks.
