Northampton..back from the dead!

I had a blast today! That is just what I needed for the head going home and ending on a good note.  My race didn’t start well today, no surprise there huh. The whistle blew and I went to hit the pedals, completely missed it (not pro!).  I was in the back in no time.  I kept it going though, suffered like a dog, rode through some crashes and fought my way up to the second group.  I didn’t stay there long, and went for it after the leaders.  Unfortunately it was just to late and although I came within 8 seconds of getting onto the back of the leaders, it just wasn’t happening after trying to bridge across solo for 5 laps.  I suffered like a dog, had a blast, and was focused.  I still felt a bit stale and tired, but the crowd and just having fun kept me going.  Richard Freeze, the announcer, was getting me jacked and keeping my hopes alive the whole time.  Very few race announcers can keep both the fans and the racers into it.  I think he and Dave Towle are the only two that really enthuse the crowd. That is what racing is all about.  Sometimes it is just a blast just going for it, turning yourself inside out, slobbering all over, eyes going blurry, legs screaming with every pedal stroke, but still focusing the whole time on ripping the course.  So much fun!

I ended up coming back from the dead, riding in the 20’s and clawing my way up to 6th, almost 5th, but Adam Myerson was just to tough.  More points and a good ride.  I am happy!  Excited to head out to Durango on Tuesday.  Tomorrow is an easy day, lots of packing before ending my month long cyclocross campaign out here.

Starting to feel the burn

I am out in Massachusetts right now finishing up my East coast cyclocross campaign.  It will be great to get back to Durango.  The racing is starting to wear on me big time.  I have raced for the last 8 weekends in a row and have a couple more before I get a solid rest week.  My whole body is starting to feel tired.  I have been going good for the most part and can’t complain about my results for having such a long road season.

The Chainbiter was yesterday in Farmington, Connecticut.  The course was awesome with good climbs, off camber sections, some really tough deep sand sections.  I wasn’t having any fun though which is usually not the case for a cross race like that.  I couldn’t get my head into the race.  The gun went off and I was just not aggressive.  Cruised down the pavement and instantly was way back. ON the second lap I moved up a bunch, but wan’t into it.  Finally by the end of the race I got my shit together and moved back into 11th.

I hope that today I can muster up one last effort and get my head into the race and have a descent ride.  Just need to a good aggressive start in and stop being such a pansy.

Anyway, just a quick update, I will throw up some more later tonight or even when I get back to Durango.  The UCI Squawker Classic is coming up in Durango next Sunday.
