The Fifty Years Storm Every Year in Portland.
Well I think I am throwing in the towel on Portland. Every time I come here the weather is complete misery. I like the city, just the weather is way off the charts. The weather was great for true cross conditions, but almost to much. It was so epic yesterday. Racing in the rain or mud is fun and not bad at all. It is the before and after that get’s tough to handle sometimes. It was so cold today and I only did half the race. My legs weren’t into it, head wasn’t into it, and I was just cold and creeping. Not a good combo when you have really want it to be in the mix at all.
The funny thing is I come to Portland every year for these races (at least the past four years anyway). Every year the weather is terrible and pretty epic. And every year I hear the same comment , “this is a fifty years storm”. Am I the only one that has noticed that there is a fifty years storm every year! How does this work? Maybe I am missing something.
I did still enjoy the racing part of the trip. Yesterday’s race was a total fun fest. The mud was flying slipping sliding everywhere in the slop. I dumped it big time straight over the bars on the second lap in a deep mud pit. I had been taking a different line in the warm up and the first lap and decided to go right down the middle. It proved to be an unwise decision and my bike just stopped and I went straight over the bars. Splat into the mud! I had a great time and wasn’t disapionted in my ride on Saturday considering I haven’t been training much. Trying to get back some legs and it seems to be working.
I did enjoy my tour of Portland and got to catch up with a good friend who recently moved here and also my teammates. A great weekend of racing and travel. I hope I can get home tomorrow as it is supposed to continue raining and storming all night and day. Imagine that in Portland!
